Adult Book Study: Taking the Bible Seriously – Just Not Literally
May 20 @ 9:15 am - 10:15 am
An event every week that begins at 9:15am on Sunday, repeating until May 27, 2018
This class will use Re-Claiming the Bible for a Non-Religious World, by bishop and social activist John Shelby Spong as a springboard for exploration of the historical roots of the gospel books of the Bible. The book shares 200 years of biblical scholarship, revealing crucial truths many lay Christians haven’t been exposed to, and exploring what the history of the Bible and its times can teach us about reading its stories today and living our lives for tomorrow. We’ll use Spong’s perspective and branch out into threads of history that lead to Jesus in scripture and how this almost behind the scenes view can help our understanding of the characters and words of the New Testament. Sid Lee will lead the class. 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the Fireside Room.
The book is recommended, but not required. A few will be on hand for purchase for those interested.
