April 7 – Contemplative Singing: Singing as a Spiritual Practice w/ Jacque Schultz
There are many ways people tap into their spirituality: prayer, meditation, yoga, chanting, writing poetry, journaling, dance and for some, singing.  Contemplative singing utilizes a cappella singing to tap into emotions, fostering joy, peace, and connection. While a single individual leads the session, the song selection comes from attendees as they become aware of what they need to buoy, heal or soothe themselves.
Contemplative singing welcomes all voices. Singing is an essential part of being human.  “We are born vocal noise-makers. Someone indicating in any way that another should not sing is violence to the soul.  It robs us of one of our primary forms of expression and communication.” Li Kynvi, UU Minister & licensed music therapist
At this Adult Nurture session, we will:

  1. Discuss the benefits of communal singing
  2. Engage in the practice of contemplative singing using the sample song sheets provided
  3. Determine specifics to create a monthly contemplative singing practice at IPC

April 14 & 21 – Kelly Corrigan Wonders – with Mónica Guzmán on Making Family Work
Moni Guzman came to the US from Mexico with her family many decades ago. In the past two presidential elections, her parents voted for Trump while she voted for Clinton and Biden. This created the kind of tension that must be managed very carefully. Fortunately, and relatedly, Moni has professional experience with difficult conversations in her capacity as a senior fellow at Braver Angels. We lean heavily on the ideas in Moni’s book, I Never Thought of It That Way, in this episode and throughout our 5-part series on getting along: Rupture + Repair. Special thanks to the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations for their generous support of this series. Every Wednesday we send out our top takeaways of the week to listeners. If you’d like to receive that email, sign up here.

April 28 – Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow
From Pastor Tad…
An old friend and colleague of mine and former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church USA, Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow will be with us on April 28 at our Sunday morning Adult Nurture group and preaching that Sunday…highlighting his new book, Everything Good About God is True: Choosing Faith.

April 9 & 23 Tuesday Night @IPC w/ Mark Norman

The Odyssey of Homer has captivated readers, poets and listeners for over two thousand years. Originally an oral epic told by storytellers over three days, it now is a written story that tells the story of a man trying to get back home. Over the course of two evenings, we will explore the world of Odysseus, the themes of the tale, and the epic journey back home. No need to read the Odyssey, although by the end of this you may want to. We will also discuss modern translations and how they have changed over the years.
