IPC Advent 2020: Drawing Near – Actively Waiting With Hope, Peace, Joy and Love!
December 1 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Draw near to the Divine, and all that is Sacred will draw near to you.
James 4.8 paraphrased
This Advent we are reminded in strange and wondrous ways of the “nearness’ of the divine.” Social distancing is our new way of life, and yet advent literally means “come toward.” As we journey together through Advent in 2020, we’ll actively wait; hoping, making peace, joyfully loving; intentionally acknowledging the sacred is already among us, here and now, being born and reborn for the good of all creation.
Join us as we ask together, “how will wonder and care be embodied in our city? How will we embody the nearness of the divine?”
Dec 1 – Bryan Stevenson video interview with Kelli Corrigan. Bryan is the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative, fighting poverty and challenging racial discrimination in the criminal justice system.

Prayer we’ll be using each week:
Freedom-giving, wonder-working God! We remember where we came from and that we are not in the same place anymore.
Thank you for all the interventions great and small that have brought us to this place. Keep us in a place of remembrance and gratitude.
Keep us moving, Holy Spirit, away from stagnant and lifeless ritual; away from thanklessness and selfishness; away from forgetting all you brought us through. Shape and counsel us in wilderness ways and strip us of the dehumanizing empire you saved us from.
Hope is an unpredictable guide; help us to trust hope as our compass that leads toward love and freedom.
We might feel the urge to snuff out hope in order to survive a low despairing season. Protect hope from us in those times and grace us with your companionship as we sit in the dust.
Be the midwife to our deliverance every time; shifting and pulling us and cradling us with joy.
Thank you for creating us Beloved and giving us the capacity to love others through their journeys as you would love us through ours.
In the name of Jesus, our liberator and the fulfillment of hope. amen
