Blues Vespers @UPS Junkyard Jane 25th Anniversary
March 20, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Blues Vespers, founded and led by Pastor Dave Brown, brings together music, poetry, spoken word and reflections to the Tacoma area for 20 years. Blues Vespers is back in Kilworth Chapel this spring and thrilled to welcome Junkyard Jane’s 25th Anniversary Show on March 20.
Junkyard Jane rose by night in the tide flats of Tacoma, Washington from a strange and wondrous brew of blues, swamp gas, rockabilly, old engine parts, country, motor oil, folk, funk and used kitty litter. Their briefcase full of kudos includes The Washington Blues Society BB Awards for “Best Band”, “Best NW Recording” “Entertainer of the Year”, and the 2016 inductee for “Blues Hall of Fame Band”. Like all true originals, they display a Creole blend of influences that they affectionately call “Swampabilly Blues”.
The honored BEAM Grant recipients (Benefiting Emerging Artists in Music) have released eight CDs of all-original music featuring BB Award “Best Songwriter” nominees Leanne Trevalyan and Billy Stoops. Founding member Barbra Blue on bass and Hall of Fame drummer Chris Leighton round out the rhythm section, while award winning multi-instrumentalist Jim King adds saxophone and harmonica to this unique Americana ensemble.
Blues Vespers invites folks to gather in (socially distanced, fully vaccinated) community to celebrate music and spend time in reflection. Hosted by Blues Vespers founder Pastor Dave Brown and University of Puget Sound Chaplain, Dave Wright.
ALL guests must be FULLY vaccinated, wear facial coverings at all times, and are asked to be very mindful of social distancing. Capacity may be limited.
