Covid-19 Response Congregational Meeting

It has been a while since we have put out a communication from our session and leadership’s conversations about our COVID response. However, in October, after conversations with other churches and health experts, we picked that conversation back up as a session. Our options as we looked at them were:
1) Continue as we are under our current guidelines and revisit as we get to Phase 3 or a vaccine has begun to be widely distributed.
2) Begin meeting under the current restrictions, which for us would look like holding 3-4 services a week with 40-50 people by reservation. Everyone would have to fill out a health attestation form and we would contract trace every attendee. Music would be instrumental, pre-recorded, or involve one soloist. No singing. The space would have to be cleaned thoroughly between each service. We would need lots of extra volunteer help. Masks would be required throughout the service.
Session had a great conversation. The majority sentiment was that people either were not ready and willing to come back yet under the circumstances, or that the experience of coming back in this way would not be fulfilling. We decided to have a congregational meeting in November to provide a forum for folks to talk about where they are at and hear other perspectives or alternatives for us to consider. That meeting will be Sunday November 15 at 11 a.m. via Zoom. We will do any other business as well at that meeting and hopefully have a little fun.
