Happy Summer IPC Trekkers!

Planning a slightly ambitious hike. We will be doing a moderate out and back hike to Little Mashel Falls. Located in the Charles Pack Experimental Forest via Bud Blancher Trailhead in Eatonville. Plan to see the Middle and Lower falls from this gravel and dirt path.

There are a few different trail heads. We are meeting at the Bud Blancher Trail head in Eatonville, not the Smallwood park or Pack forest entrance.

What to Expect?

As of now, weather predicted or Saturday 8/8

Partly cloudy. High 82F. Winds light and variable.

  • A newer portable toilet is available near the trailhead only.

  • Wear appropriate clothing, sunscreen, bug spray. Keep in mind if you get wet in the falls there is still a 2 mile hike back to the cars.

  • Binoculars and listening for birds can bring unexpected surprises.

  • Pack water, snacks/lunch. We will pause at the waterfalls to rest and recoup.

  • Dogs and kids are welcome, keep in mind this will be more challenging than previous hikes.

  • The trail is a gravel/dirt path, wooden steps going down to the falls and slippery rocks.

Trekkers Plan

Approximately 4.5 miles and 500 ft elevation change on this out and back trail. Estimated hike time about 3 to 3.5 hours at a leisurely pace and breaks at the falls.

  • Plan to gather at the Bud Blancher Trailhead parking lot and have a quick intro/poem. From there we will follow signs for the little Mashel Falls, crossing a wooden bridge over the river. We will arrive at the lower and middle falls, take a break for rest and snack, taking in the breathtaking wonder of waterfalls. Use caution when going down to the falls and around rocks. DO NOT attempt the upper falls, they are washed out and inaccessible from the trail from below.

  • Afterwards we will head back toward the cars, depending on carpooling people can go at their own pace. Tentatively plan we will be back at the cars by 1230 pm.
