New Adult Study – New for 2019
March 3 @ 9:15 am - 10:15 am
An event every week that begins at 9:15 am on Sunday, repeating until March 3, 2019
Adult Study Sunday’s 9:15 a.m. Fireside Room
Dave Wright will lead a discussion on: Christianity and Anti-Semitism: Learning Our History and Preventing Harm.
Anti-Semitism persists as one of the most common yet least-engaged forms of social discrimination in US Society. Christians often reduce Judaism to its realities as expressed in the Christian bible, but generally do not engage the evolution and contemporary realities of this 3000+ year old faith tradition. This four-week Adult Nurture program, on Sundays at 9:15am will explore the realities, legacies, and contemporary issues connecting Christian identity and practice with the world of anti-Semitism. Topics will include:
*Realities of anti-Semitism on the US and in Tacoma
*Roots of anti-Semitism in Christian scripture, theology, and worship
*The bridge between Christian anti-Semitism and 20th/21st century hate groups
*Navigating Israel and Palestine (and other difficult topics) for those who are neither Israeli nor Palestinian
*Engaging the subtle anti-Semitism of progressive Christianity
*Understanding the basics of Judaisms
All are welcome to attend one or all of these sessions, as each will both stand alone but reference and build on content from other sessions. Limited readings will be assigned in advance and available the week before at the back of the Sanctuary, or can be provided by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
