Our Hospitality Vigil is a ministry of presence. We are there to greet people who are visiting their detained loved ones. We want them to know they are not forgotten. We offer snacks and a listening ear. If requested we refer them to community resources.

IPC has a team that go to the Northwest Detention Center the first Saturday of each month. Alternating months – one will be the A.M. shift, the next month the P.M. shift and so on….

The morning team arrives at IPC at 7 a.m. to make coffee and load cars with snacks, tables, canopy and other supplies. We arrive at the DC about  8 a.m. and set up our hospitality center near the DC entrance.  We leave around noon. Take down the canopy, pack up supplies and store them at IPC.

The afternoon team arrives at IPC at noon to do the same as above and arrive at the DC at 1 p.m. and stay until 4 – 4:30 pm. Then the team takes the canopy down, packs up supplies and stores them at IPC.

The ideal number of people providing hospitality at the DC is four. Other volunteers are welcome to come help load up the cars and set up at the Center.

Most of the people who participate in this mission have been doing it for years. We always are welcome to new people wanting to volunteer! There are many ways to help.

If you are considering volunteering for this meaningful mission at IPC, a hands on experience that is truly a blessing to those who are visiting their detained loved one, please contact Cynthia Lorch, cjlorch@wamail.net  or Beth Prevo, bethiep123@comcast.net if you have an interest or questions.
