About Alaa: from the UW staff webpage…

Alaa Alshaibani

Here in Honors I… am a Graduate Staff Assistant. I assist with Interdisciplinary Honors admissions, managing the virtual front desk, along with various diversity and equity projects.

I like thinking about & studying… how students have the power to make the world better. I am a second year Masters in Public Administration student at the Evans school. Along with working and studying virtually at UW, I am an Associate Board Member at YWCA Pierce County, and a tutor for an energetic 6 year-old boy. When I am not thinking about how our world is falling around us or working on an assignment, I can be found daydreaming about post-COVID, or catching up on my YA To-Read list.

My first week in college… I met some amazing women who all went on to study and work in a variety of fields. Though we don’t get to see each other everyday (one of them lives in Virginia!) we still manage to check in with one another. Surprisingly, or not-so-surprisingly, COVID has made it easier to connect!
