Theology Reading Seminar – TRS

December 14, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Theology on Tap at IPC has been doing “pub theology” for the past three years, creating a space where we can dip our toes into a different theological idea/issue each month with good friends and good beer.

This fall, we’re replacing it with something new.
We are pleased to announce a new discussion / reflection space we’re calling “Theology Reading Seminar.” TRS grew out of  Theology On Tap, and will be a place for a deeper, long-term exploration of a single theme/topic. This year’s theme is Feminist Theology, and each month we’ll hear from a different Feminist, Womanist, or Post-Colonial theologian.
But TRS aims to be more than a space to passively hear and receive insights.
The real work of TRS will happen prior to the monthly gathering as we encounter the text: critically reading the text, allowing the text to read us, and paying attention to our own reactions in the process.
More than just a book club style discussion, the monthly conversation will be structured around sharing our experience of being provoked and challenged to reexamine our tacit assumptions about ourselves, God, humanity, the world, and the Church.
All the logistical details are in the attached pdf flyer (with reading schedule). Also included is the reading we’ll discuss, 7 p.m. in the Fireside Room in the Christian Ed building: 901 N J Street. The second Thursday of the month.
Cheers,

Jeff Deininger, TRS moderator
