TN@IPC August Zoom Kristina Sinks

August 18, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Adult Nurture (AN)
Immanuel is inclusive and involved.
In order to uphold these values, we recognize the need to educate ourselves to work towards dismantling systemic racism and break the hold white supremacy has on our country.
We recognize and choose to educate ourselves in how the Church has upheld and promoted racism.
Thus, integrating all aspects of our Adult Nurture programming, we have begun an anti-racist curriculum with the ongoing goal of recognizing the sea of racism we swim in. We hope to empower ourselves and others to be better when we know better.
All are welcome in this collaborative essential work

An up-and-coming writer, musician, educator, and theologian, Kristina Sinks is a candidate for ministry in the United Methodist Church. She is a 2019 graduate of the University of Puget Sound in Religious Studies and Communication Studies, and will be pursuing a Master of Arts in Public Ministry at Garrett-Evangelical Seminary this fall. A native Californian (Bay Area!), Kristina loved her college years in Tacoma and hopes to return someday.

Who Do You Say That I Am: Race, Iconography, and Jesus in 21st-Century America
Those paintings of a blue-eyed, light-skinned Jesus in your hallway, in your church, and in your children’s Bible don’t really mean anything… or do they? At the crossroads of film/art/media studies and faith, we find iconography: the representation of the divine. Join us to learn about the history of Jesus iconography and all that it tells us about the state of racism in our nation—and in the church—today. Bring your own favorite image of Jesus and together we’ll explore where these images get their meaning and how they influence our lives, actions and faith.

Cindy & Lynn is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
