TN@IPC ~ Doris Tinsley

April 25, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

April 25 (This was postponed on April 11) In honor of the 105th year  in 2023 of Carlisle Indian Boarding School closing, please join Doris Tinsley (enrolled member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation) around land acknowledgments and how to move towards genuine, intentional relationships with the land and each other. We will discuss the state of Native students in higher education, the role of land acknowledgments in institutions, and also the history of the Cushman Indian School. Please bring something to write with and be ready to dive into conversations about race, policy, and decolonization.

Of Shinnecock Indian Nation, Doris is a graduate of Virginia Tech with her bachelor’s degree in Sociology and American Indian Studies. Currently, she is the Assistant Director of Access Programs at the University of Puget Sound. She is pursuing her masters from the University of Minnesota in Tribal Administration and Governance. Alongside being a full-time student and working full-time, Doris also runs a self-started non-profit organization by the name of Native Americans in Higher Education and Mentorship.
