SUMMARY:IPC Trekkers: Little Mashel Falls via Bud Blancher Trail
DESCRIPTION:Happy Summer IPC Trekkers! \nPlanning a slightly ambitious hike. We will be doing a moderate out and back hike to Little Mashel Falls. Located in the Charles Pack Experimental Forest via Bud Blancher Trailhead in Eatonville. Plan to see the Middle and Lower falls from this gravel and dirt path. \nQuestions? \nCall or Text Mindy Cox: 253-678-5832 \nSaturday August 8\, 2026\nCarpool: BEFORE 8:15 am IPC Parking lot\, LEAVING at 8:30 am\nApproximately an hour drive from IPC.\n**Please RSVP for carpool coordination!**\nNot carpooling – Location: Meet at 9:30 am Bud Blancher Trail head \n480 Weyerhaeuser Rd S\, Eatonville\, WA 98328 \nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/7hLJ6huVzHJc8ZFKA \nThere are a few different trail heads. We are meeting at the Bud Blancher Trail head in Eatonville\, not the Smallwood park or Pack forest entrance. \n \nWhat to Expect? \nAs of now\, weather predicted or Saturday 8/8 \nPartly cloudy. High 82F. Winds light and variable. \n\n\nA newer portable toilet is available near the trailhead only. \n\n\nWear appropriate clothing\, sunscreen\, bug spray. Keep in mind if you get wet in the falls there is still a 2 mile hike back to the cars. \n\n\nBinoculars and listening for birds can bring unexpected surprises. \n\n\nPack water\, snacks/lunch. We will pause at the waterfalls to rest and recoup. \n\n\nDogs and kids are welcome\, keep in mind this will be more challenging than previous hikes. \n\n\nThe trail is a gravel/dirt path\, wooden steps going down to the falls and slippery rocks. \n\n\nTrekkers Plan \nApproximately 4.5 miles and 500 ft elevation change on this out and back trail. Estimated hike time about 3 to 3.5 hours at a leisurely pace and breaks at the falls. \n\n\nPlan to gather at the Bud Blancher Trailhead parking lot and have a quick intro/poem. From there we will follow signs for the little Mashel Falls\, crossing a wooden bridge over the river. We will arrive at the lower and middle falls\, take a break for rest and snack\, taking in the breathtaking wonder of waterfalls. Use caution when going down to the falls and around rocks. DO NOT attempt the upper falls\, they are washed out and inaccessible from the trail from below. \n\n\nAfterwards we will head back toward the cars\, depending on carpooling people can go at their own pace. Tentatively plan we will be back at the cars by 1230 pm.

SUMMARY:Contemplative Singing Circle
DESCRIPTION:The Monthly Contemplative Singing Circle is meeting the first  Saturday of the month\, 10:15a to 11:30a in the Fireside Room.\nAll voices welcome! Friends and family welcome\, too! Together\, we will agree on a regular time to meet going forward. \nContemplative Singing: Singing as a Spiritual Practice\nThere are many ways people tap into their spirituality: prayer\, meditation\, yoga\, chanting\, writing poetry\, journaling\, dance and for some\, singing.  Contemplative singing utilizes a cappella singing to tap into emotions\, fostering joy\, peace\, and connection. While a single individual leads the session\, the song selection comes from attendees as they become aware of what they need to buoy\, heal or soothe themselves. \n\n\nContemplative singing welcomes all voices. Singing is an essential part of being human.  “We are born vocal noise-makers. Someone indicating in any way that another should not sing is violence to the soul.  It robs us of one of our primary forms of expression and communication.” Li Kynvi\, UU Minister & licensed music therapist. \n\nThe ability to read music is not required. At this Adult Nurture session\, we will:\nDiscuss the benefits of communal singing\nEngage in the practice of contemplative singing using the sample song lyric sheets provided\nDetermine specifics to create a monthly contemplative singing practice at IPC

SUMMARY:Office Closed Labor Day
DESCRIPTION:In the late 1800s\, at the height of the Industrial Revolution in the United States\, the average American laborer worked 12-hour days\, seven days a week\, in order to eke out a basic living. Despite restrictions in some states\, children as young as 5 or 6 toiled in mills\, factories and mines across the country\, earning a fraction of their adult counterparts’ wage \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLabor Day’s Railroad Strike Roots\n\n\nCongress passed legislation in 1894—amid a railroad workers’ strike—to create the holiday honoring labor \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPeople of all ages\, particularly the very poor and recent immigrants\, often faced extremely unsafe working conditions\, with insufficient access to fresh air\, sanitary facilities and breaks. \n\n\nAs manufacturing increasingly supplanted agriculture as the wellspring of American employment\, labor unions—which had first appeared in the late 18th century at the dawn of the labor movement—grew more prominent and vocal. Unions began organizing strikes and rallies to protest poor conditions and compel employers to renegotiate hours and pay. \n\nFirst Labor Day Parade\n\nMany of these events turned violent during this period\, including the infamous Haymarket Riot of 1886\, in which several Chicago policemen and workers were killed. Others gave rise to longstanding traditions: On September 5\, 1882\, 10\,000 workers took unpaid time off to march from City Hall to Union Square in New York City\, holding the first Labor Day parade in U.S. history. \n\n\nThe idea of a “workingmen’s holiday\,” celebrated on the first Monday in September\, caught on in other industrial centers across the country\, and many states passed legislation recognizing it. Congress would not legalize the holiday until 12 years later\, when a watershed moment in American labor history brought workers’ rights squarely into the public’s view. On May 11\, 1894\, Chicago employees of the Pullman Palace Car Company went on strike to protest wage cuts and the firing of union representatives. \n\n\nOn June 26\, the American Railroad Union\, led by Eugene V. Debs\, called for a boycott of all Pullman railway cars\, crippling railroad traffic nationwide. To break the Pullman strike\, the federal government dispatched troops to Chicago\, unleashing a wave of riots that resulted in the deaths of more than a dozen workers and the arrest and imprisonment of Debs. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Meaning of Labor Day\n\nIn the wake of this violent unrest—and in an attempt to repair ties with essential American workers—Congress passed an act making Labor Day a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories. On June 28\, 1894\, President Grover Cleveland signed it into law. \n\n\nBut more than a century later\, the true founder of Labor Day has yet to be identified. Many credit Peter J. McGuire\, cofounder of the American Federation of Labor\, while others have suggested that Matthew Maguire\, a secretary of the Central Labor Union\, first proposed the holiday. \n\nLabor Day Celebrations\n\nLabor Day is still celebrated in cities and towns across the United States with parades\, picnics\, barbecues\, fireworks displays and other public gatherings\, especially over the long\, three-day Labor Day weekend. For many Americans\, it represents the end of the summer and the start of the back-to-school season. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nfrom History.com

DESCRIPTION:Join Pastor Tad for a weekly six session “survey” or “foundations” of Christian theology and spirituality class. It will be a VERY broad and summary introduction to the most important elements of Christian understanding. This class is probably MOST useful to people new to or exploring Christianity but can be useful to anyone who wants to revisit the traditional foundational elements of Christianity (sometimes in a non-traditional manner)\, but in an environment that is not meant to indoctrinate or convince\, but rather foster curiosity\, inquiry\, and deeper exploration. The class will combine lecture/presentation\, with conversation\, and may include some light reading. The class will meet on Monday nights from 6-7:45 pm\, October 5  – November 16. If you are interested in attending email Pastor tad at 253tad@ipctacoma.org  Your ability to participate in a minimum of 4 of the 6 sessions is recommended.
