HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES (both year round and seasonal)

12 Days of Christmas: We provide kid friendly food, that is easy for school children to prepare, for 25 families in our neighborhood during the school Winter Break. The children in these families receive free or reduced price meals during the school year, but during Winter Break many of these kids would go without breakfast and/or lunch because their family simply cannot provide it for them.

First Saturday Hospitality Table: We host a hospitality table (on the first Saturday of the month) offering hot and cold beverages, snacks and smiles, all gratis for the family and friends visiting loved ones at the NW Detention Center.

Hospitality Kits: A team makes overnight kits for newly released detainees who must travel alone to reach their destination. The kits include: a blanket, pillow and toiletries to provide comfort for the journey. The kits are distributed by the AID NW Welcome Center. We also partner with World Relief to create kitchen kits for UN refugees who are starting a new life in the Puget Sound region.

Mother Earth Farm: We send teams of volunteers to help weed and plant crops at Mother Earth Farm in early summer on certain Saturdays from 9 a.m. to Noon. All of the food grown goes to the Emergency Food Network for distribution to local food banks and soup kitchens.mother 2

Oasis Youth Center: Teams of volunteers prepare/buy dinner on the first and second Thursday of each month for the youth, staff and volunteers at the OASIS Youth Center.

Paint Tacoma-Pierce Beautiful: Associated Ministries organizes volunteer crews to paint the homes of low-income, elderly and disabled residents of Tacoma/Pierce County. Immanuel has organized a crew to paint a home each summer since 2008. This event typically kicks off mid-July and runs through the beginning of August.

Urban Grace Church ~ We send a team of volunteers to Urban Grace Church on the second Sunday of each month to help prepare and serve breakfast.

Mission Inspired Trips:

Habitat for Humanity International: We have sent teams to Guatemala to help build houses in January 2012, 2014, 2016> In 2018 the group went to Filandia, Colombia.

BorderLinks: We sent a high school group in 2009 and sent adults in February 2016 to the US-Mexico border for an experiential learning opportunity with the delegation group BorderLinks, based in Tucson. The team learned about immigration issues and returned to IPC to share their experience and made recommendations to the Mission and Peacemaking committee for future action. Moving forward, the group at IPC will be called, The Jericho Road Project.
