Children and youth are important and central here at Immanuel. We take our commitment to nurturing their body, mind and spirit very seriously.
Our purpose is to provide a warm and welcoming place for them to learn of God’s love and kindness. Younger children may not always understand what is being said, but they can understand that this is a place where they are loved and accepted.
Our spiritual education program emphasizes Christian tradition and practices through word, music, art and various other learning styles. We also encourage a respect for other religious traditions.
Here at Immanuel we welcome children and youth of all ages to worship. If your child is 3 years old and above s/he is invited to participate in Sunday School. We begin in the sanctuary at 10:30 with our families, are called up for Time With Children and Passing of the Peace, then leave the assembly for the rest of the service to explore Sunday's Bible readings in our classes.
The first Sunday of the month, children leave as usual but return to church to receive communion with their families.
We begin each week together in creative ritual, then break into age groups for more focused, developmentally appropriate activities:
- Hummingbirds: Age 3 to Age 5
- Sparrows: Kindergarten to Grade 3
- Ravens: 4th - 5th grade
- Hawks: Middle and High School
